A neutral mononuclear Fe(II) complex with spin crossover (SCO) properties, Fe2(SCN)2 (1) (L = 2-(2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline), was solvothermally synthesized. It displays a new example of two-step SCO with Tc1↓ = 250 K, Tc1↑ = 260 K and Tc2 = 295 K.

The first iron(ii) complex of 2,5-di-(2-pyridyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole (L), namely [Fe(II)(L)(2)(NCS)(2)], has been synthesised and studied by magnetic susceptibility measurements, Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. It has been found to undergo thermally-induced spin crossover featuring two well-separated, abrupt steps at T(1/2)(1) = 167 K and T(1/2)(2) = 112 K.

Abrupt room temperature switching (T(c) = 295 K with a 5 K hysteresis) was achieved in a neutral Fe(II) complex based on a 2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)pyridine ligand.
